The Enchanted Ball is a magical evening of fundraising, entertainment and mingling in support of the Financial Markets Foundation for Children.
Established in 1990 by the Reserve Bank and a group of Australia’s leading banks, the Foundation is singularly focused on raising funds for research into children’s health issues. In 2017 we celebrate 27 years of the Foundation and over 237 pioneering research projects which it has supported.
The Enchanted Ball is one of the premier events of the Australian financial services community’s annual calendar. What started as a simple lunch arranged by four friends who dressed up in polka dot ties and donated a day’s wages to this cause, has become one of Australia’s largest fundraising galas, thanks to support from individuals and companies across the country. This magical evening is organised by volunteers from Australia’s leading financial institutions and attended by 900+ guests.
In 2016 we presented a FMFC funded grant project which looked into advanced brain imaging with an MRI compatible incubator which allows safe scanning at 30 weeks gestation to detect if a baby is at high risk of cerebral palsy. Combined with clinical measures this enables a diagnostic toolbox that will accurately predict motor and neurobehavioral outcomes. The risk for Cerebral Palsy is great for infants born very preterm and one in 10 of these develops major disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy.
Since its inception in 1990, the Financial Markets Foundation for Children has raised more than $20 million for 244 research projects, many of which have broken new ground in treatment and changed the lives of children and their families for the better. Important research has been done into asthma, leukaemia, diabetes, autism, premature birth, Hirschsprung's disease, cerebral palsy and peanut allergies among others.
